Europe: Post-Easter Seafood Markets Normalize: Tight Supply Persists While Buying Opportunities Open

Apr 13, 2026 - European seafood markets are transitioning out of peak Easter demand, with buying activity normalizing and some early signs of price softening. However, elevated fuel costs continue to support a firm price floor across capture fisheries.

SINBAD
Atlantic Cod remains tight with strong pricing following Easter, but increasing Northern landings are expected to ease prices into April and Q2. The market is still firm, though momentum is beginning to shift.

Norwegian (Atlantic) Salmon is stabilizing as strong Chinese demand offsets weaker US demand, creating regional imbalance but overall market balance. Prices have settled below earlier highs, offering better buying conditions with some upside risk.

Strong herring landings continue to support ample supply and stable pricing, even as post-Easter demand softens slightly. This remains a consistent, value-driven category with no major near-term changes expected.

Tuna markets remain firm due to tight supply from weak Pacific catches, with earlier price increases holding despite softer post-Easter demand. Prices are expected to remain stable to gradually increase, requiring proactive buying.

For Cephalopods and Crustaceans, Higher Moroccan quotas and improved biomass continue to pressure octopus prices downward, keeping supply comfortable even post-Easter. This remains a strong buying window, though gradual firming is expected as demand stabilizes. Lobster prices remain under pressure following new season supply and post-Easter demand softening, after already declining sharply pre-holiday. This weakness is expected to be temporary, making current levels an attractive entry point.

Our recommendation is to begin shifting from defensive buying into a more strategic approach—maintain coverage on structurally tight categories like groundfish and tuna, while taking advantage of current value in cephalopods and crustaceans. At the same time, monitor easing conditions in previously tight markets like cod and salmon to capitalize on improving pricing as supply increases.
