2026 Russia Salmon Forecast

Apr 27, 2026 - During a high-level meeting on April 23, 2026, led by Federal Agency for Fisheries head Ilya Shestakov, Russian scientists finalized a salmon harvest forecast of 227,000 tons, reflecting an ongoing cyclical decline in stocks.

SINBAD
The figure sits within an earlier projected range of 205,000–261,000 tons and will be driven primarily by pink salmon (47%), followed by chum (31%) and sockeye (17%).

A 227,000 MT wild Pacific salmon harvest would rank among the lowest on record for Russia.

With pink salmon accounting for 47% (or roughly 90,000 MT), this would mark a potential record low harvest for pinks, based on historical even-year performance.

Since 2020, in even-numbered years, Russia has consistently only harvested around 70%-80% of the Forecast.
