--- Some areas in the highly anticipated "A" Season Alaska Pollock fishery ended as quickly as it began last week. Area 630 in Kodiak opened on January 20th and closed on Sunday January 29th after the quota was harvested. NOAA set a quota of 254,000 metric tonnes for the Gulf of Alaska, of which 56.3 thousand was allocated to Kodiak. According to catch data from January 28th, 13.5 thousand metric tonnes of Pollock was caught - 92 percent of the A season allowance for Kodiak. --- For a third year in a row, most Pollock in Area 630 landed small. Around 92 percent fell into the 300-500 gram size and less than 1 percent came in at 500gram up. Alaskan processors are not excited about the Pollock from 630 as most of the Pollock Roe was immature too. We expect to see larger Pollock and more mature Roe in other areas and further into February. Some of the larger Pollock trawlers will move West to fish in Area 620 and to the Prince William Sound for Area 640. Smaller vessels are likely to remain in the Kodiak area but move to Cod or Flatfish like Sole. --- As for pricing, small Alaskan raw materials are anywhere between $1360 - $1380 per metric tonne CNF China - Comparable to $1200 for Russian Pollock. First-of-the-season Alaska Pollock fillet pricing was released last week, ranging from $1.85 - $1.95/lb for 2/4oz Shatterpack fillets with good inventories. Larger size fillets are nearly $1.00 more per pound, but availability is limited. Check back in two to three weeks for updated pricing and larger fillet offers. --- To wrap this episode up, our TradexLIVE Offer of the Week is for Sinbad brand Atlantic Cod Loins.
