--- We are halfway through the Pink Shrimp fishery on the West Coast, with good count per pounds and steady pricing for the foreseeable future. Around 14.5 million pounds of pink shrimp have landed in Oregon to date in the current fishery, which began in Mid-May after a voluntary stand down to clear inventories and wait for better counts in April. This time last year the landings of pink shrimp were nearly 21 milion pounds, so there is some catching up to do if harvests are to match the total landings in 2016 of 35.5 million pounds. We spoke with Scott Groth from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife about the current fishery. Scott mentioned that fishing is going smoothly and boats are getting filled, even though the trips are a little longer than previous years. He confirmed that the counts per pound have been decent this season as fishermen work carefully to meet the 250-350 counts that most plants are interested in. --- Current inventory holdings indicate decent holdings of 250-350 count, albeit lower than last year, but a leading Oregon processor mentioned that that could change over the next few months. Shrimp production has slowed over the past few weeks as less boats are fishing and the counts seem to be getting smaller. For pricing, Oregon processors believe pricing on the smaller sizes like 350-500 count will remain the same, but we could see a slight increase in the more desirable 250-350 count. 350-500 count pink shrimp are about a dollar less per pound right now than the 250-350 count, at $3.95 and $4.95 per pound respectively. Last year fishing was strong through until October, so we hope the next few months will pick up so we can continue to see steady pricing on the bigger counts of Pink Shrimp on the West Coast. --- In conclusion, our TradexLIVE offer of the week is for 250-350 count Sinbad Platinum Cooked and Peeled Shrimpmeat. These are #1 quality, produced in Oregon and We have 4,000 pounds available in Vancouver at $4.95 per pound.
