Consumer demand for sustainable seafood is increasing at all levels of commerce. To thrive in this evolving market - it is more important than ever for companies to adopt sustainable seafood policies – and offer a level of transparency to their customers. Inspired by concern for the global ecological crisis facing our oceans – we have postured our business philosophies around raising awareness and furthering education. Tradex Foods is proud to be certified by the Marine Stewardship Council and to be an Ocean Wise Partner in their sustainable seafood program out of the Vancouver Aquarium.
Tradex Foods provides leadership in sustainability through education and the adoption of globally recognized best practices and standards in sustainability to ensure a vibrant industry for future generations.
In 2010, we created inFINite Sustainability Tracker to help our customers view the most sustainable (and least sustainable) seafood sourcing options which included carbon footprint calculations for transporting seafood for our SINBAD and SINBAD Platinum brand seafood. In 2016, we implemented a Sustainability Production Tracker to track the sustainability status of raw materials used in the production of our SINBAD, SINBAD Gold, and SINBAD Platinum seafood brands. In 2017, we were able to implement the Sustainability Production Tracker before production to help us make smarter, quicker, and more sustainable raw materials purchases which ultimately helped us achieve our record high 92% Sustainability Rating Score for 2017, and by 2020 we plan to score 99.58%

Our Sustainability Rating Score for 2017 increased to 92 percent for all production of our three SINBAD brands. This means that 92 percent of all raw materials used in the production of our SINBAD, SINBAD Gold, and SINBAD Platinum products in 2017 were harvested from sustainable fisheries. This is up 7 percent from our 2016 score of 85 percent.
Tradex uses guidance from Seafood Watch, Ocean Wise, and the Marine Stewardship Council to determine the sustainability status of raw materials. Their ratings are then entered into our inFINite™ Sustainability Production Tracker to arrive at a score out of 100. Below is a breakdown of how sustainable our SINBAD, SINBAD Gold, and SINBAD Platinum brand products measured up by category.

What Does the Future Look Like?
Our Sustainability Outlook Algorithm (yes we have an algorithm for this) projects that by the end of 2018 our Sustainability Rating Score will be 95 percent. By the end of 2019, it will be 97.50% and by the end of 2020, it will be 99.58%. These projections may fluctuate because there are many factors that are simply out of our control; however, our inFINite™ Sustainability Production Tracker allows a fast paced business like Tradex Foods make to quick and smart raw materials buying decisions laying the path to a sustainable future.
