--- Alaskan Pink salmon fishing has come to a close, after reaching peak harvests in August, while buyers continue to seek opportunities in the market. Pink salmon harvests are significantly higher than the dismal year in 2016, with fishing peaking in early-to-mid August, similar to the last bumper year in 2015. There is a still a big swing between what China anticipates paying for Pink salmon, and what many Alaskan processors are offering. However, when it comes to pricing, many Alaskan Processors indicate sales to Asia on Headed and Gutted pink salmon ranging from $1.60 to $1.65 per pound. Chinese buyers are looking for price points closer to $1.40 - $1.45 per pound on headed and gutted Pinks. Pink salmon does appear to be relatively in strong demand despite the disparity - a few Alaskan vendors suggested shipping to the Ukraine as an alternate market. Chinese processors are getting strong demand for value added products, heading into the New Year, and so the manufacturers are sourcing hard from Russia. Russian Pink salmon is typically about 5 to 10 cents less per pound, but supply is quite short. --- Domestically, current season good meat colour Headed and Gutted ocean run Pink salmon was in Seattle for $1.45 per pound last week. On finished goods, IVP 1-1.5lb pink salmon fillets from Alaskan production is in the range of $4.20 - $4.25/lb in Seattle. --- In the twice frozen market, Pink salmon portions are the strongest pricing we have seen in 3 years. In 2015, twice frozen Pink salmon portions were on the West coast for between $2.80 and $2.85 per pound. Last year portions jumped twenty cents as they approached the $3.05 mark. Current pricing on twice frozen portions are in the range of $3.15 to $3.25 / lb. We are seeing lots of demand on Pink salmon, both headed and gutted and on finished goods, but offers are limited to availability on the open market, which is slim. --- Finally, our TradexLIVE offer of the week is for 2-3oz Sinbad Gold Pacific Cod Portions.
